Max Banner Ads Plugin Review

If you own a Wordpress Blog, chances are you’ve heard of MaxBlogPress and their popular plug-ins for wordpress.
Today, I got to try out one of their plug-ins, Max Banner Ads on my legal blog for Texas Accident victims.
Here are my impressions, good and bad, of the plug-in:
The Good
- Easy setup in the usual way with easy activation
- Intuitive interface – never read the help guide but was able to use it out of the box. I was able to replace two banners with one rotating banner in a matter of minutes.
- Supports image ads, but also text, javascript (adsense and others)
- Banner images can be from a URL or uploaded
- The script can automatically extract the url and image if you copy and paste the html code in.
- Tracks impressions, clicks, and calculates click-through rate.
The Bad
- Not 100% compatible with the Silo Builder plug-in by Dan Raine and Ed Dale. Though I told Max Banner ad to make the image do-follow and put in the correct modification as required by the Silo Builder plug-in to make the link do-follow, it is no-follow on the blog page.
- I didn’t like that the Admin options are under tools instead of its own menu like I’m used to with this kind of plug-in. My preference really.
- Does not support managing banners from one central location like OpenX.
- Does not support complicated displays, like showing banners on selected pages or categories.
- Does not support paid banner management. I.e. if you want to sell banner space, you will have to handle that manually.
- Does not have the ability to split-test banners or specify an uneven rotation.
Summary
This is a no-brainer if your looking for a simple banner management tool.
